Cosmetics sections, logistics operations, and efforts at offices

Every department at KOSÉ is actively engaged in environmental conservation activities.
We hereby introduce some activities as one example.

Use of sustainable materials in cosmetics sections

The SEKKISEI BLUE section

The SEKKISEI BLUE and Prédia BLUE share a common clean policy for a beautiful cycle of gratitude for nature's blessings and giving back to the Earth, and provide products that are friendly to both people and the earth, aiming for a sustainable future in harmony between people and the Earth (*1).

The design of the SEKKISEI BLUE section embodies the concepts of “Earth's bounty,” “discovering one's own beauty,” and “refined Japanese elements.” The fixtures and pillars utilize plaster materials primarily made from weathered reef-building coral (*2) harvested from the sea in Okinawa, colored with natural inorganic pigments derived from earth and minerals, and crafted using natural materials. In addition, we use sustainable materials, such as OSB boards (*3) and 30% recycled glass for some of the walls, to create a comfortable store that is surrounded by nature while giving consideration to the environment.

Reducing the environmental impact of company cars

At KOSÉ Group, sales persons use company cars to visit customer site. In order to reduce CO2 emissions from company cars, we are actively working to reduce the number of vehicles used and switch to vehicles with lower environmental impact, including hybrid vehicles, as well as to utilize car-sharing at our business sites and outside car sharing services.

Energy saving and waste separation activities in offices

Office lighting replaced with LEDs

Office lighting replaced with LEDs

In order to implement energy conservation activities in all offices, we are promoting company-wide efforts to control the air conditioning temperature, turn off lights in meeting rooms and kitchenette, when unattended, and shut down personal computer power when leaving the office or leaving work.
In addition, we are also promoting a company-wide approach to a paperless environment by automating various applications/approvals and expense reimbursements, as well as reducing the use of paper materials by bringing laptops to meetings and conferences.
In April 2020, the KOSÉ head office, which uses the largest amount of electricity among all offices, switched to electricity derived from renewable energy sources. This led to the reduction of CO2 emissions by approximately 480 tons per year.

At the head office, the rule is that employees who come to work in the morning turn on only the lights in the area they are in, and when they are not present, the lights are automatically turned off by installing motion sensors to save energy. Computers are set to go into sleep mode after ten minutes of inactivity. In FY2022, we switched from the conventional method of purchasing and managing office supplies by department to bulk purchasing and management in order to reduce storage space and waste of purchased items, and started a centralized utilization of office supplies by setting up a common space for office supplies. At this time, office supplies purchased in bulk have been standardized to Eco Mark certified products.

In addition, as part of the head office's waste reduction efforts since FY2023, we have been thoroughly sorting and disposing of unsoiled paper and plastic containers with Plastic Identification Code mark so that they can be reused as resources. Also, we place trash cans in the kitchenette, and rinse the lunch boxes and cups with Plastic Recycling mark with water before discarding them, thereby reducing the burden on waste collectors and helping to protect the global environment.
